im an adult male regularly running 40-50 mi/week. Just noticed shin
splints comming on in the last week. ive been resting and icing. the
pain hasn't subsided yet but i was just wondering does anyone know if
it would be ok to continue slow jogging on the grass as part of my
recovery? Is there any particular stretch for the condition? Thanks

I just started back after five days off with a back problem that had
pain too severe to consider running. An added benefit to the time off
was the chronic shin splint in my left shin is gone. It would not
heal while I was running, even at a reduced rate. It was worth the
five days off. I'm starting fresh, no pain anywhere right now. For
how long, who knows......

You can run with shin splints to the extent you can stand the pain, but
it's not going to be "part of your recovery." If you're at 40-50
mi./week, it's certainly not going to kill you to take a week off. You
might also consider whether you need new shoes.

Good stretch for shin splints: While sitting, place your left forefoot
under your right midfoot and push hard upward. Hold for 30 secs. or so,
then do it again with your right foot on the bottom. Repeat.

Some useful advice here:

Do not try to run through your recovery. Good luck!
