hi everyone. i have been doing a search for a pair of lighter weight trainers that are suitable for fast paced runs and racing up to the marathon distance. the shoes i am looking at are the following: the asics ds trainers xi, the new balance 823 and 901, the nike zoom miler and the mizuno wave elixir. i would greratly appreciate any feedback if anyone uses or are familiar with any of these shoes. thanks dave

Dave, these mouth breathers aren't loyal to brand names. They buy whichever jogging slippers color coordinate with their jogging costumes.

> asics ds trainers xi, imo deliver a hard ride. great traction though, feel like a daily trainer, not a light-weight trainer. very popular. i have a pair i'm not crazy about. >the new balance 823 the 823 & 833 is a fantastic minimalist light weight trainer, i think brian b. in texas ran the boston marathon in a pair of these. of all the shoes listed these are the most flat like. NB is great in that they don't 'mess w/this model....iow, "keep it simple". terrific shoe. the 833 is a sweet shoe to race in. >and 901, very nice, of all the shoes has the most roomy toe box. only downside is they wear down rather fast imo. this is supposed to be an advancement on the 833....it's a very successful shoe in the market...this seies. i've had 2 pairs of 900s and 1 901. > nike zoom miler and the you don't want this shoe. not terribly popular with daily runners, very much a starter shoe for people just getting in the game. never owned a pair. >mizuno wave elixir. i've never been disappointed w/a pair of mizuno shoes. however this shoe is just too new & unproven, you'll be a beta site, could be good, could be bad. I'd go w/the 833 over the 901 for running a marathon. the 833 is by far the minimalist champion of all the shoes you've listed.

Stay away from the zoom miler. The forefoot chusioning feels very flat and they do not have good transition heel to toe. Also have a history of leaking air bags. A fantasic lightweight trainer from Nike is the Skylon 3, I consider it the best shoe I've had. The Skylon has been updated and now called the Hayward (but in Europe it's called the Skylon 4). These shoes run about a full size small and narrow so don't even consider them if you require a wider fit.
