Background. For medical reasons, I can't run in shoes. So I tried out all running sandals. Again, for medical reasons, I can't run in them. Then, after a long search, I found a pair of sandals, which are just perfect: Sperry Top-Sider Santa Cruz 2 Strap. However, they are not made for running. I plan to run on asphalt about 20 miles a week at about 9:30 min/mile. When I was healthy, I used to run 40 miles a week at about 8:00 min/mile. QUESTION. Are there any good reasons why I should or shouldn't run in them? Thanks, PaulN

How unsaniatary. Yuck. Seriously, I tried occasionally running barefoot on grass or beach or my treadmill but neither was a good experience for me. /Paul

There are some beaches I'd trust running barefoot and others I wouldn't. Besides you are one being stubborn and picky saying you cant run in this and cant run in that, then complain when people offer serious alternatives. The padded running sandals some stores sell will probably work fine.

BTW, the OP [=me] doesn't live near beaches or even water. Anyway, my question was purely about running in sandals not made for running. I asked for advice on this and nothing else. Sorry for being so blunt but that's how it was. /PaulN P.S. I own about 3 dozen books on running and none of them discuss this issue.

Having run longer and faster in the past, there is always the temptation to try going that pace and distance again. But regarding your question: as my college chemistry proffessor used to say - "if it works, use it" Enjoy the run. ED
