Subject: runner's diary >>> now supports runningmap.com permalinks
|
Hi all, runner's diary (www.runners-diary.com/index_en.php5) is offering a new feature: the support for runningmap.com permalinks. Provided you have mapped down your running course with runningmap.com before this permalink allows you to access your runningmap with a simple mouse click. runningmap.com opens up a variety of valuable options for runners - from measuring out distances to sharing running courses (i.e. by emailing the permalink). The use of runningmap.com is free (and I am grateful to the owner of runningmap.com that he approved of my integration of runningmap permalinks into runner's diary). No login is necessary. Important: You will need a current version of the Flash Player plugin (http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download). In order to try out runningmaps with runner's diary *without* a runner's diary account please use the demo function of runner's diary (click the "Demo >>>" menue on http://www.runners-diary.com/index_en.php5). If you follow the instructions runner's diary will generate 10 sample exercise units with runningmaps for 5 running courses for you. Please mind to end the demo by clicking the "Stop Demo" before leaving the site. Please follow these steps: 0. Click the "Show exercise data" link/menue and click on one of the course names (alternatively click the "Enter exercise data" menue, then the "Running courses" menue and choose a running course from the "course name" list menue). 1. Click the "external Link" symbol on the right hand side of the "runningmap.com" field to access the corresponding runningmap in a new window. If you have decided to register with runner's diary this is how it works *with* a runner's diary account: 0. Click the "Enter exercise data" menue, then the "Running courses" menue. If you have not entered running courses before, enter a new running course and click "Save". Then call "Running courses" again and choose the running course from the "course name" list menue. 1. Open a new browser window/tab for runningmap.com (http://www.runningmap.com/). 2. Enter the name of the city where your running course is located (in english transcription). 3. Choose "map" for classic map view, "sat" for satellite view or "hyb" for both. 4. Choose "km" (runner's diary does not support miles yet). 5. Search for the starting point of your running course by dragging the map around with your mouse (left mouse button pressed). Hint: By clicking on "+" or "-" you can zoom into and out of the map (a lower scale allows for a more detailed tracking of your running course). 6. Mark the starting point of your running course by clicking your mouse and start tracking your running course by clicking your way along the track. -- You can change the location of a point by simply dragging it to the desired location. You can undo one or more clicks by pressing <Strg ><z> or by clicking "Undo". -- 7. After having completed a running course, make a note of the distance and click "permalink". (And check out the elevation feature - it shows differences in elevation of your running course.) 8. Fill in the form and copy the permalink (<Ctrl >+<c>). -- After finishing off a running course by clicking on "permalink" you cannot alter the course anymore. Each change will result into generating a new permalink. -- 9. Go back to the window/tab with runner's diary and paste the permalink into the field "runningmap.com". Please mind to copy & paste the *whole* link (including "http://"). 10. Enter the distance of the running course. 11. Click "Save". If runner's diary displays an error message please check if you have actually entered the whole permalink. >From now on, you can access your runningmap by clicking on the "external Link" symbol on the right hand side of the "runningmap.com" field. Enjoy your running exercise with runner's diary and runningmap.com! Regards, Boris (webmaster (at) runners-diary.com)
