On the recommendations of several folks in this group I bought

"Why We Run" - by Bernd Heinrich

I read this while I was on vacation last week. (It was hard to read
since my glasses were misplaced for most of the week, so I could only
do about 1 chapter at a sitting before my eyes went out of focus.)

It is a very scientific work presented in a very readable, friendly
manner. The combination of autobiography, animal and insect research,
and runners training flows very well.

It is one of those books that I will read more than once. I might even
try to convince my wife to read it. Anyway I join the ranks of those
who reccommend this book.

Enjoy the run.

I read it three times. I find it helps me get into a mood to do
base-ish mileage running, so I usually pick it up in about November.

I have the old version "racing the antelope", which I read again this year.
It's better the 2nd and 3rd time around. I didn't appreciate just how fast
he was running that 100k the first time I read it...

I know why I run.......it's the story of my life...always running. I
told my wife when they lay me to rest I want the following inscribed on
my headstone..."and now he rests".

Life is way too short to sit around like a slug.

First day of Anatomy class back in college the instructors first words
were very prophetic when he stated....."movement is life". Much meaning
behind those three little words and I try to live by the statement.

Good point but in all fairness for John, he has posted using this
writing style for years. I have no idea whether he is goofing on us or
has some real problems. Be it real or Memorex, I find deciphering these
streams of unconsciousness not worth the energy.

Hey dumbass,

you don't know this guy or his background and he has posted here on and off
for years. Shut the hell up unless you have something to contribute.

Actually I'm with you. Certain styles of "streams of unconsciousness",
I can read and even enjoy. This one's not anywhere near my wavelength,
so like a few other posters, I skip it.
