Subject: plantar fasciitis - when to start running again

I've had PF for a year now. I have basically resisted running for all
tha time and done all the usual things that people recommend (ice,
stretching, night split, etc etc).

I got some custom orthotics about 5 weeks ago, which do seem to be
helping, but it is a very slow process.

I was just wondering when I should start running again. Should I wait
for the pain to completely go and is it safe to start running again
even when there is a bit of mild pain?

In my view, you wasted a year off by not running. Everybody I know has
run through this injury if you call it that. People get PF who never
even ran. In most cases it will eventually go away. Pain can almost
totally be alleviated while running when the proper taping method is
used. If you don't feel you can run in any pain, then take up euchre.

My dor suggested running through the PF, but going slowly with no hills.
AND- stopping if I had too much pain. I did run and the PF lasted about a
year. A friend had PF as well. He quit running altogether. The pain
lasted about a year. YMMV.

OH- we both iced, stretch, used heel lifts, didn't walk around
barefoot...all that stuff...

Thanks to you both for your replies. I feel confident I can start some
gentle running again now.

On a different note, can anyone recommend some good 'neutral' distance
running shoes that I can wear my orthotics inside?
