Subject: measuring foot

While getting fitted for shoes, should one measure the foot (length and
width) with or without socks?

a little background: my feet are weirdly wide without wearing socks.
Even though my running socks don't constrict my feet, they still look
narrower when I wear socks. When I went to the running store last week
to get fitted for shoes I was measured WITHOUT socks on. Yes, they
measured my feet while I was standing. They determined I need wider
shoes than what i'm currently wearing. I bought the shoes and ran with
them. Though I strolled in the store with the shoes on I couldn't get a
feel for them until I ran in them. What I observed was that the shoes
are too loose and my feet were lost in these shoes. I was "webbing" the
feet so that I feel grip of the shoes. It may or may not be related to
my eventual pain in the knee after just 3 miles.

So should they have measured my feet with socks on?

Thanks.

I always run a bit (jogging through the store if necessary) in shoes when
trying a new model.

Maybe these shoes aren't for you. However, I find a looser fit in the toe
box is better for me, more like running barefoot. If you run a lot, a snug
fit is not always a good thing, since your foot may expand or swell as you
run, and over a long ways or a race, may cause blisters.

The lack of grip in the shoe may be related to the fact that the insole
hasn't become molded to your foot yet -- look at your broken in shoes and
you'll see the insole adapts to your footprint.

Look, how old are you anyway, 12?
Are your feet changing size between visits?
You should know what your foot size is before you get to the store. If
this is too tough, just look at the old shoes you've been wearing. They
print the size right on the shoe. What a concept!
When you go to the store you say, "Let me try a pair of these on in a
XXX." If they feel tight, you go a half size higher. If they are too
loose, go smaller.
Don't depend on the shoe store geek to run your life.

Different Country have different size.
example:=
A while back found a wet suit from Taiwan XXL at K- marts store.
to fitting room Then in store to walk and find 2 ladies 2 remove my 1
arm afte only when no one would help me, Then Yelling very very loud had
to yell in the store that "I was Scottish I need help" before any one
that wasn't laughing to help me get undo stuck..
Look more like Hunchback of Noter Dame then a runner in the water of
The Great Lake state.

XXL not the same in u.s.a. as in taiwan.

What brand of shoe?

My Saucony's are wider than my Nimbae.
Turns out I like walking in the Saucony,
and running in the snuger Nimbae.

I think the bottom line on measuring with or without socks is
whether you run with or without socks, although I don't see that it
could make much of a differance in size. I don't think shoe stores
will let you try on shoes sockless.
