Hi. i'm a relatively new runner. well not new but i'm getting back
into the scene. i've been off for nearly 2 or more years.. and when i
was on before i never really ran more than 2 miles a day anyway.. i've
recently been running every day for about a month. this past week or
so i've been doing 3 miles a day adn today i did 3.5 miles and the last
mile barefoot (this is something else i'm slowely working towards)
What i'm finding is that my legs are what hold me back.. is this
normal? i feel like if my legs didnt get as fatigued my resperatory
system could do at least 4 miles or maybe more. lately my thighs start
to get sore and i get shin splints on the left side of my left leg.
basically my legs as a whole just get fatigued.. is this something
that relatively new runners experience? i dont appear to have week
legs... they look to be relatively strong. should i run though the
aches? its usually not severe.. its just fatigue.. will this go away?
thanks
john

wow some of you guys are rough. is it offensive to you that i refer to
myself as a "runner?" so it motivates me, i'll call myself a runner.
one of these days when your in a wheel chair because your "musculo
skeletal" system has deteriorated from age i'll be happy to give you a
push ;)

It's an insult to us REAL runners.

Ignore the trolls. You are a runner and enjoy it. Cross training is
the best advice.

The cardio system gets fit really quickly but the musculo skeletal
system takes much longer. I've found extra cycling , Xtraining,
swimming gets those legs sorted without making even more advances in
the cardio system. Even now after nearly 2 years of running and lots of
injuries I only just feel like my legs match my cardio fitness.

wonder how long we can drag this out? since i'm not really a "runner"
i'm not a representative for all runners. but you.. you're a real
runner. and this whole gay thing has got to be the most ridiculous
thing i've ever heard. i sense alot of represed homosexual tendancies
here. i'm strangely drawn to this. such a passive aggressive way of
being assertive this usenet battle is.. i suppose it makes sense that
you're a "runner." what are you running from??

Correct. You DO know to whom you are speaking, don't you?

That's how I knew you were gay. Well that, and I did an internet
search on you, and it turned up several gay porn sites you visited,
regularly.

You're more than welcome to join in, but don't be surprised when you
are treated as the recreational jogger that you are. You are obviously
gay too, so we'll go easy on you.

John, sounds like you have ramped up too fast and your legs are talking
to you. Try running two days and then a rest day while holding your
mileage. Ten slowly add mileage staying within 5%(10 is usually to much
for beginners) rule. Too much, too soon and maybe too fast.

Your legs get tired while jogging?

John is going to freak out when he realizes that his skin gets all wet
when he swims too.
