First female master at Akron, and by a decisive margin. Way to go! Of course I'm eager to hear details, stories.

yabut my time absolutely absolutely sucked :-( I don't want to relive the crappiness at the moment, but maybe after a couple of martinis I'll be able to write about the race in a witty, non-self-pitying way :-) Thanks for the congrats, though. You are going to do much, much better than this at nycm, btw. All your last workouts were loaded with being tired yet you kept on pushing. My instincts tell me you were coaching yourself, then again you may have an aggressive coach. Of course I await the details to see how you ran the race especially pacing. -Doug

She'll probably place somewhere between 2nd and 4th overall in our local Marathon next week anbut there is no prize money.

No. Thanks for the thought, but this thread is about you. You beat every other old broad who showed up, by a wide margin. Only a few young girls snuck in ahead of you. That's awesome! If you're not happy with your time, well, surely there's a reason and that reason probably isn't that you're horribly flawed and owe us all a bunch of public shame. More likely, I reckon, it means some factor(s) was/were suboptimal/off/unexpected: weather conditions, the course, your energy or legs or digestion on race day, your expectations, your training (presumably fine because you didn't make any big changes, right?), your thyroid, whatever. Regardless, you kicked plenty of ass in my book.

My very knowledgeable running store recommended Brooks Dyad as a neutral shoe that would let the orthotics do the work. And it has room for my fairly thick foam orthotics. Pam in SC
