hey, i put off my usual Monday long run (very windy, miserable weather) in lieu of a shorter run on a treadmill. wimp! so today, i headed out in pouring rain to do this thing. for the first hour or so, it rained down on me, with some pretty strong winds now and then. i did a small loop at the start in just a long sleeved top and shorts..... to see if i was dressed appropriately for the weather.... but then snuck back home to throw on a jacket and long tights. much warmer, and considerably drier (for a while), i continued with the run. a great deal of solitude out there in such crappy weather. not a bad thing, especially since i have had a lot on my plate lately and needed a quiet outing to de-stress. i actually enjoyed the run, getting thoroughly soaked, then slightly drying out when the clouds parted for about the last :40 of the workout. this was my longest run so far in training, with my goal half marathon race about a month away. a few more runs of about two hours, and i'll be ready for a sub two hour race (estimating about 1:50, just a touch slower than previous HMs). anyone else tough it out in garbage weather today? now to put up my feet for a little while, to let that pizza digest :) Cam

I did run Wed night in some drizzle, forced outside by my trail geek alleged friends, but wore about 8 layers. The only difference between us in your scenario is I would have the pizza when I changed clothes. ;) Good to see all is going well for you. Hmm 1:50 - pretty quick for a comeback effort. ;) Good luck!!! -DougF

Glad to hear your running is coming back so well! Wednesday here did not rain, so I had a nice run, but Wednesday last week I hit the ran at the start of a 4mile run. Not too bad since that day it was actually a fairly warm rain. It is a special solitude running in the rain. One sign of a real runner. Good luck with the HM! Ed

hey Ed, well, the running races weren't really the focus for the past couple of years, since i was doing sprint triathlons. i tailored my running to those, not really exceeding about :40 runs in training (for the 5K run leg of the tri's). but mid-winter, i decided to take the plunge back into longer run races, and since the half is a very achievable distance for me, that was my choice. plus i wanted to build a really good base for a longer triathlon (Olympic distance, finishing with a 10k run) in early August. so right now i'll just do some easier, base cycling til the half.... then after a little breather, i'll launch into the harder workouts for the tri. nothing like a warm, "summery" rain during a run. yeah, "a real runner"..... the only runner, and the only soul at all out there. for ducks only. thanks, Cam

hey Doug, 11 hours is insanity.... and good for you! those ultra thingies are like quantum physics to me.... i can't get my brain around that at ALL. i know you have to fuel up with all sorts of solid foods during those races, but i sure wouldn't chuck down pizza mid-run for just a half. i'm being hopeful for the 1:50. must still measure the distance i'm at now and see what i'm currently doing. but my pace feels (nearly?) as strong as it's been in the past. but i'll settle for anything less than 2 hrs. thanks for the friendly food thoughts... they are always welcome.
