Subject: What should my goal be?

x-no-archive:yes As you know I am going to try and run a 5k at the end of ober. I have been running occassionally since May. I ran this same race for 3 years, but it has been 3 years since I ran it. I remember my first time was 27:45. The second year it was 26:40 I think. The third year I think it was 25:50 but am not sure. (I will try and look it up) I guess my question is, what would be a reasonable and attainable goal for me for this race. I was surprosed last night while running (even though on training runs you are not supposed to keep track of time) that I ran roughly 3.2 miles in 25:33. At the halfway point it was 12:20. My origional goal was to just beat my best time previously but I wonder if a goal of under 25 minutes would be attainable. (I think the race course is mostly uphill which may add problems). Where I run now has some hills but they are gradual. (I run on the country road I live on). Just wanted to know what you thought.

I think you can make a 24:30 at worst, and perhaps better than 24:00. You might want to buy some lightweight racing flats for the race, I might suggest New Balance RC950's. Be sure to try them out once or twice before the race. And keep up your training. A well meaning responder. :-)

Well I don't know if you are a troll as somebody said, and I really don't care. What you asked sounds like a reasonable question, although not one that could be answered without considering all the variables. If you want to set a goal, why not just make the goal to be faster than the last time? When you reach a certain age you'll find that even being able to maintain your previous times is a good goal. x-no-archive:yes What are racing flats? DO they make you faster? Right now I just wear old new balance tennisshoes I wear every day. mcmahan@cup.hp.com wrote: > stryped <stryped@hotmail.com> writes: > : x-no-archive:yes > > : As you know I am going to try and run a 5k at the end of ober. DO they make you faster? Of course, the have little motors on the side of the heel that behave just like an outboard motor on a boat. If you run real softly you can hear blades turning but dow'nt sweat too much or you will get splattered by the prop wash and need gortex glasses. Six inch red stiletto heels will also make you run faster, but mostly people looking to have their way with you. >> >> Right now I just wear old new balance tennisshoes I wear every >> day. > > I rest my case. Either really naive or trolling without a pole. -Doug

stryped <stryped@hotmail.com > writes: : x-no-archive:yes : What are racing flats? DO they make you faster? OK. Only if you use them for running. : Right now I just wear old new balance tennisshoes I wear every day. What an answer! You are, either as someone said, a troll, or you are almost unbelievably naive about running. If you are not a troll, then I would suggest that you spend some time googling "running" and "running shoes" to start with and read what you find. For example, you could go to "runnersworld.com" click on the "training" link, and read what you find there. That would answer a LOT of your simpler questions, and eliminate such naive question as you ask in your post. :-) Larry
