Subject: Weird calf fatigue issue ...

Has anyone had an unexplained calf fatigue which completely debilitates
ankle functionality and usually occurs at a predictable distance? For
the 10+ years Ive been running I have dealt with this problem.
Previously it would occur generally around 8 or 9 miles, but as Im now
running much less (20/week) it now occurs as early as 15 minutes into a
run.

Ive tried PT, exercises, stretches, ultra sound, XRAY, MRI (basically
the works!). I even had a dor tell me it was my IT band and he
injected it with cortisone!

There is no pain or knot. And gets worse with rest! go figure...

Any suggestions?

Is it fatigue in the sense that it your calf burns from the effort before
becoming tired?

Or is it a loss of strength, such that no matter how much you try, you can't
get any power out of your ankle flex?

If it's the latter, it could be neurological (anything from the cerebellum
to the spine to the nerves in your legs).

(I'm no dor, just have a friend with a cerebellar-neurological issue, so
I've heard alot about his travails)

I get something similar to this almost every time I run. It comes and
goes and I just try to run through it. I'm thinking it might be a shoe
issue and plan to mention it to the sales person next time I buy shoes.

Try reading up on compartment syndrome if you haven't yet.

Maybe it is psychological. We are inherently lazy creatures. For
example, when you first start a run , you feel lethargic and even a
little bit of pain. Maybe it is just the bodies way of trying to get
you to stop. Some high adrenaline days I can run effortlessly and
another day I will feel fatigued and I know it is all in my mind.

And I, being fat and impotent, am very jealous of you joggers. If I
could only lose that extra 300 lbs I'm carrying arround. Any tips on
losing weight so I can start jogging? Thanks for any help.

Prefacing your subject with the word "weird" is unnecessary.

This is a jogging forum.......everyone already assumed you were weird.
