In my quest to reach week 3 of couch to 5K, I stepped it up a notch. If all goes well, I hope to do week three next week. I had been doing 1.5/1.5, 2/2 (jog/walk) three times. Today increased it to 1.5/1.5, 2.5/2.5 twice followed by one more 1.5/1.5 The good news is that I did it. There isn't any bad news. I used the iPod to try to maintain a steady pace, and succeeded pretty much. I kept it at about 12:05 min mile, although I did have a few short spurts of about 11:30. My walking speed was 2 MPH; since the purpose of walking was to get the heart rate down, slow is good. When I did the final 1.5, though, I decided to push it a bit and started out at about 10:30. That lasted about 40 seconds; I had to bring it back down to 12:05 after that, which I maintained for the final 50 seconds. According to the iPod, my average pace for jogging and walking combined was 15:15 The iPod says that my time was 17:27 (not counting the final walk), but my HR monitor says it was 17:31. I know that I started both devices at the same time because at 30 seconds they were reading the same. I wonder which one is in error (or are they both off?).

I didn't know iPod had a stopwatch feature. And apparantly a pacing feature? Interesting. I wouldn't worry too much about that small an error. Most of it could easily come from the time to locate and press the right buttons. It is only 4seconds out of over 1000seconds. Pick one of them to record in your running log and be consistant. Again, good to see your progress. Remember, to enjoy the run. Ed

I'm not worried; I'm from a geeky/techie SQA background, and if I were working on the product that had the error, I'd be filing a bug report to the developers/programmers. As I said, I pushed the buttons simultaneously, and thirty seconds later, they were still in synch. It could possibly have been pushing the buttons when I finished, though, but I don't think that I was four seconds between them. Thanks for the encouragement. Racing, though, is not a concern; I'm not saying that it never will be, but right now, I'm jogging for my health.

This is the most progress I've made in one step; all the rest had been more incremental.
