Imo those that do so compromise to some measure their personal
experience of running. I would never re-route, remove or blunt one of
my senses away from the endeavor. When I see blind runners I often
wonder if I am hearing all they are. Here's one for the ipod crowd.

I think visually impaired runners
pay more attention to gravity
and proprioceptive senses that purely
audio sense.

Just a guess, based on my own experience.

I love to listen to great classical music. I despise the stuff they
play in the gym. If you want upbeat go with Mozart.

I also like big band. A really great CD is to find Frank Sinatra with
Count Basie. Until I heard that, I thought of Sinatra as a schmaltzy
singer. However, put him with the Count it amazed me.

Any Basic CDs are great. The whole band was a rhythm section. They
really kick.

It's called having a mind. You win the golden cheeks award. I doubt
you could understand Basie music. Unlike you, not only can I listen, I
play in an 18 piece Jazz band, worked my way through college as a
musician, and even played professionally in local orchestras. And yes,
I've also played in rock and country rock bands, though I don't like the
volume.

Those who do, do, those who can't, are you.

Sad event.
I agree, music for running outside not necessary.

Music and running don't mix for me. I enjoy the sights and sound of
real life. Yesterday as I was jogging I passed a young girl wearing an
"I've Got The Pussy So I Make The Rules" sweatshirt. She muttered
something about an "old F--- 'er jogging." Life is beautiful. Spring is
in the air.

That happened to me too! Did you get kicked in teeth while checking,
too? Is it me, or shouldn't be allowed to check it? I mean THEY are
bringing it up, and in the name of truthfullness, I think we should be
allowed to take a peek.

Agree if one were running new trails in Yosemite or Pike. However, if
on familiar routes around town or school tracks, upbeat music helps
breaking up the monotonous foot falls. Now, e-books on Quantum
Mechanics or String Theory is not advised as they suck up too much
energy firing those neurons.

Only a world class wanker such as yourself would post this.

Lance is never creepier than when he's giving us his opinions.

I'm guessing that if he DID listen to music while jogging, it would be
the soundtrack to an Andrew Lloyd Weber musical, or Celine's Greatest
Hits.

I don't agree. Lance is creepy no matter what or when.

I run on the beach and watch the sunrise, or run the other way over the
causeways. It is as beautiful a sight as one can imagine. I also love
to stop and take pictures of tourists taking pictures of their children,
saying "do you want to get in the picture".

However, I do indeed love listening to music. On Sunday mornings NPR
from Fort Piece has a special on Organ Music, with discussion on the
beautiful old organs.

I also listen to great classical and jazz.

In addition, I have completed many books on tape.

It's called multi-tasking.

The only time I don't do that is when I'm racing. Following my car
accident that's been a while, but I'll be back!
