RACE: Quad Cities Half Marathon
LOCATION: Moline, IL
DATE: 9/24/2006
BIB NUMBER: 625
OVERALL PLACE: 21 out of 811
DIVISION PLACE: 5 out of 24
TIME: 1:26:39
PACE: 6:37
TEMP: 48 Degrees
WIND: 16mph NNW

This was my first serious Half marathon of the year, and more
importantly, the race that would give me an accurate perception of what
im capable of at Chicago this year. I have heard many say, you wont do
this, you wont do that, so my challenge is to always overcome what
people say.

The race was perfect, minus the wind. THe first couple miles I led the
womens overall marathon champion, by helping her pace up the hill, and
keeping the wind off of her. I felt a little worn after the hilly first
3 miles, but a stretch of 1 mile downhill headed back towards the river
gave me ample oppurtunity to run a fast mile, and recover. I found
another guy to take turns drafting / leading with me, and that really
seemed to make a difference. We ran together the entire race, until the
last 3/4 mile, where I took off.

The wind was quite tough, however, I used it to my advantage,
especially on hills. My strength conditioning is really starting to
show.

Key Highlights:
1. Qualified for Tier 1 Preferred Start @ Chicago
2. Realized that qualifying for Boston is possible....
3. Cut 17 Minutes off my PR for a 1/2
4. Achieved the last of my 3 goals for 2006. Great year.

Wow congratulations on the PR. That is spectactular.
The report was short, but I guess you ran too fast to notice much else!
Pacing with the elites (even if it was one of the women runners) is
also a good achievement.

Enjoy the rest of the year and may you meet all your future goals.
Ed.

Thanks Ed!

It was very entertaining to sit in front of them (if only for the
beginnning). I know I am still a long ways away from being a great
runner, but I have a lot of life left!.

Im also getting married in 9 days... ober 6th...

What a month!

SWEET!

Yes an Extra minute definitely helps.

The funny thing, less than a year ago I was told by many members of
this group that I couldnt make any of the goals I had (Sub 20 5k, < 50
minute Bix 7, and a 1:30 Half) , now looking back, it sure has been a
great year.

I have learned so much from the wisdom of the 30-40 year old runners. I
listen to every word they say, and 98% of it has paid off! Thanks guys
