52nd birthday, running for 29 years now, about 42000 miles. In fits and
starts, getting slower every year. A few more years, I'll be going so slow,
In Einstein's reference frame, I'll be going backwards!

That may not be all bad. In a 5K race a couple of years ago I was
running behind a guy who suddenly flipped around and started running
backwards. What a clown, I thought. Hell of it was, I had a tough
time passing him. Pissed me off to no end.

I understand! All you can do is slow the slowing down.

Ah, but one of the benefits of such endurance is trophy hardware. I'm
the same age and I've gotten trophies in two races recently. Okay so
one was due to me being the only runner in the 50-55 age group, but hey
at least I showed up.

You have about 10 years and several thousand miles on me. I'm not
willing yet to admit I'm slowing down. Of course I was never fast
anyway.

All I can say is: enjoy the run.

Ain't that the truth.

I have lots of stuff from my F60 AG, much of it when I was one of 1-3
there -- I'm not always "last" but it's not unusual either. I'll take it,
though. I'm a latecomer to this game so I don't have anything from earlier
days -- and since I wasn't ever that fast probably would have garnered few
trophies anyway.

Showing up is ahead of those who slept in. heh heh. Of course, in this area
there are enough other things going on that some of my faster competition is
either racing elsewhere or training for something bigger. I've noticed that
around here (DC) the field thins out in the F60 & up but the men's field
doesn't thin out that much until they hit 70.

When I'm a very old lady in a nursing home, the running stuff will make nice
decorations & nobody will know the details. :-)

Sometimes, not getting slower is progress in itself.

You'll never be as slow as those guys who sit and watch the television
all day!! Keep at it and don't let the brain tell you to give up. As
soon as you do you'll regret it.
