Subject: Do I have enough time to buy new shoes?
|
I am planning on runing the Miami Half marathon on Jan 28th. I have been running since November and have been using my old cross trainers. I am up to 4.5 miles 3 times a week with a long run on Sunday. On this mornings run I noticed for the first time my feet started feeling sore. I am worried that if I go out and buy a new pair of shoes now, will they be worn in in time for the run at the end of January. This will be my first race and any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Alas, lister Tim Downie (another Scottish M.D.) has made it out here before you. You will have to work extra hard to regain your favor. Roger. Wondered where you wandered off to. Getting your 4th Ph. D. in France or some such thing? > Where did you live? L. A., of course. > I've been doing > HEAPS of running in san fran recently. My god, it's pretty. Why > didn't you tell me, you shit? If you've been keeping up on your reading, you'll see that I had a great snow run above LA on Sunday. Do let us know if you swing by LA, and a guided tour of cool places may be available if you're one of the first 3 callers... Once I raced a 50 miler in a brand new pair, but i put the insoles from the old shoes in them, and they worked like a charm, no blisters. -- Posted via a free Usenet account from http://www.teranews.com

As long as they fit you should be fine, my feet feel better almost immediately when I put on new shoes. Breaking them in for me usually only takes a week or two. Even if they aren't all the way broken in, they are still going to be way better for you if your shoes are already hurting your foot. You should definitely go invest in them. You can really hurt yourself with bad shoes, and it's just not worth it.

Get some Asics, one of the models with "Biomorphic fit," and you will have them broken in within a week.

You will have plenty of time to get used to them and if you get fitted for them at a running shop you shouldn't have any problems right out of the box - not that you should run a half marathon with new shoes, but that at your distance now you should be fine.

Even when a pair feels good out of the box on the first run, several runs later an appliqu=E9 rub or tight spot can turn up. Sometimes I cut the shoe. Other times I lace differently or tape my feet. There are times when the shoe causes leg or foot pain. You really need more than one pair of shoes for regular running. If you are committed to the long term, all the shoes will get used up eventually.

That would give you more than sixty miles in the shoes, which should be plenty to ascertain whether they'll work for you on race day. If you're particularly concerned about wearing them down a bit, you could walk in them, too. Cheers, -Sean. sacedric@gmail.com wrote: > I am planning on runing the Miami Half marathon on Jan 28th. I brought some Adidas after some advice at a specialist store and they have given me nothing but trouble ever since. I wish that I had not traded in my Asics. I know what I am definately buying next time............ Ange from Aus

I've always found my New Balance shoes to be instantly comfortable and they have never needed 'running in'. http://marathontrainingandnutrition.blogspot.com/
