If you're interested in his history, training, biography, etc. here it is.
He was training at 50 hours/week at one point.

50 hours x 8 min/mile = approx 400 miles/ week running ??

Not... It's a great sports story, for all endurance athletes.

Read about the action stage-by-stage:
www.cyclingnews.com/road/2006/tour06/06index.php

Some good background articles:
http://outside.away.com/outside/features/200607/tour-de-france-2006-floyd-la
ndis-1.html
http://www.velonews.com/race/dom/articles/9487.0.html

Also the NY times Sunday magazine section from July 16th is great in
detailing the kind of pain he's lived with for the last few years, and how
he fooled everyone about his injury.

Well, look what the cat dragged in! Man, you're like a turd
that refuses to flush.

What exactly does this have to do with rec.running? Nothing,
you nitwit. But it's got everything to do with acknowledging
one of the greatest sports performances of our time.

Now go crawl back under your rock.

How about congrats for Oscar pierero. He finished less than a minute
behind Floyd. after 20 days, i think if they are that close they should
call it a tie.

A nice thought but quite unrealistic. What about the first place runner
that finishes .05 seconds ahead of second runner in the 100 meter race,
should we call that a tie?

Second and even third for that mater in the TDF is one hell of an
accomplishment but first by the slimmest of margins is worth major
dollars for the riders and the sponsors and that's what the ride for.
It's called a race and it's measured.

Every time I watched him ride on OLN I kept wondering how much
discomfort he was experiencing with a hip joint falling apart. Deep
down I think he highly suspects it was his last and where he got all
that determination. I know they have come a long way with hip
replacements but I question is it enough to allow him to get back into
TDF level. It would make for a great human interest story if he did and
I'd love to see it happen for both him and the sport.

It'll be a miracle, just like LA's comeback from cancer. But if
it happens it'll mean hope for all of us who plan on getting old
enough to start breaking the occasional hip.

I dont know the sport well enough to judge whether 1 minute is a lot.
It seems they establish a pecking order and everyone agrees not to move
above their station.
It seems they only put in the minimum effort to beat their rival. On
the other hand, maybe it is hyper competive where you have people with
100 percent motivation and 100 percent talent competing against each
other.

Only for the last leg which is a symbolic ride. Other than the last day
it's balls to the wall for every team. If you had followed any of this
year, the lead changed more than most years and maybe THE most. I
hardly think that qualifies as "not to move above their station." You
may not understand the strength and depth of the top five teams and why
it appears as such.

How can you even conjecture a minimum effort? I see you know about as
much about biking as you do running or are you trolling again?

yeah but....

27 July, 2006

COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Tour de France winner Floyd Landis failed to show
up for a one-day race in Denmark on Thursday, a day after missing a
scheduled event in the Netherlands. "He was not on the plane," said
race organizer Jesper Tikoeb. "We don't know where he is. It's
pretty mysterious. We know nothing, really nothing at all." Landis
also failed to appear for the Acht van Chaam race in the Netherlands on
Wednesday.

This was inevitable. By the way they went after Armstrong, even
post-mortem, the French had made it very clear that they were
simply not willing to tolerate yet another American winner.

And Floyd, the dummy, played right into their hands. He had
that unfortunate cortisone injection on the night before Stage
17. But that one's sort of understandable, given his painful
hip condition.

What's worse, he was apparently so distraught over his
disastrous Stage 16 performance that he tried to drown his
sorrow in a couple of six-packs of Heinekens. It's well known
that ethanol consumption temporarily causes unusually high T/E
ratios - which is what he's being accused. It's a natural
hormonal process.

Of course, none of this will make any difference to the French.
They've got him where they want him and won't let go easily.
They are clearly in the process of tearing down yet another
American National Hero. I say we put aside our little
difference and present a united front to these scoundrels. This
injustice must not be allowed to stand! Who is with me?

(Of course, if it turns out that Floyd really cheated, then I
hope Oscar Pereiro is declared the winner. Since he was only a
minute behind after 20 days of racing, I always said he should
have shared in the first place anyway.)

If this were true, why eliminate Ullrich and other favourites, whose
absence made Landis' win possible, before the start? Does not compute.

The French had little choice when presented with the findings
of Operacion Puerto, which was a Spanish initiative, not
French. It's true that the TDF made the decision to DQ the
two riders, but then the French have never really forgiven
the Germans for invading them. And since the Italians had
sided with the Germans, they were guilty by association.
Ullrich is German, Basso Italian. Coincidence? I don't
think so...

Tour de France champion Floyd Landis tested positive for high levels of

i had heard that the high levels of testosterone could very well have been
the result from a cortisone shot given to help with the pain his hip. if
that is the case then floyd will cleared of any doping charges. remember
the day of this test was the day after landis bonked.

Easy to check. Take a Carbon 13 test. If it is normal the Carbon 13 will be
low if artificial it will be high. Lets just waite and see......

The weird part is that everyone kind of knew Floyd was going to win
once he made up 8 minutes. Oscar became a nonentity. It was like
everyone was willing Floyd to win.
It was sort of like Rocky. More interesting than watching Lance
Armstrong win.

Do you seriously believe that? I watched stage 16 and 17 on tv. There
was no way in the world that a person could die one day like Landis did
and race like its his first race the next day. That was suspicious.

The tdf direction will tread everybody equally or people will loose
believe in the race. When was the last time a Frenchman won? Bernard
Hinault in 1985!!

I'm still waiting for the the full evaluation and until then it's all
smoke. As a side bar, do you think he can shit the bed one day, add some

A very valid question. A lot of people are wondering how that
extra testosterone alone could have done that for him. From
what I'm reading, testosterone helps you build-up over a longer
period of time, not overnight. If it really was responsible for
