Subject: Confused over hip problem

I've had a slight hip issue for years which puzzles me. My right hip
flares up if I run, but seems to depend on quantity. I could do 10 mins
on a treadmill a couple of times a week, but if I jog regularly
outside, I get a dull ache right in the joint which can last a while.
In December I did lots of jogging and it flared up for many weeks,
though I sense the over-reaction may have been linked to a run of cold
viruses too. The hip also clicks / 'snaps' a lot, but again it's not
consistent - sometimes doesn't do it for ages. Occasionally I feel dull
pain just before it clicks as if there's definitely something
overlapping or conflicting. I put in a ferocious (and fun!) 2 weeks of
snowboarding thie year and (bizarelly) - no problems whatsoever - it's
just running that's the problem. X-rays and physio a couple of years
ago revealed nothing - though I have noticed since that if I lie on my
back and raise / lower the leg with certain keen angles, it gives a
jolt type of click (very noticeable but more dull than that described
above) - I will mention this to physio (new appointment booked).

Sorry to ramble on - any ideas?

OK! Many thanks for that, I would indeed value any opinions after I've
been seen..

Thanks, yes I saw my GP yesterday and he booked me for physio, and
another x-ray, then perhaps the muscle-skeletal centre. I just thought
I'd post here to see if anyone had experienced anything similar.

Then you're doing right! I was really just responding to the "see a chiro"
troll who tends to get on our collective nerves in here.

Please let us all know how things work out, OK?

And when all is said and done, they'll send you to a chiropractor.

Or, conversely, see someone who may actually know what's going on and is
trained to help you. Like...say...a DOR.

No you fucking moron, you go to a chiro FIRST, because that is their
specialty, then if you get no relief in a week you look elsewhere.
Chiro is the FIRST line of defense, not the last. He's the cheapest
and least invasive.
Next time you open your stupid piehole, try knowing WTF you are
talking aout you dipshit.

Brahahahahhahahahahahhaa- I trolled the troll!

Dude, I got sciatic nerve probs, upper and lower back probs. Chiros didn't
help- they hurt! You're not an idiot- that would be being too generous...

A serious conversation isn't a troll.

Then you went to a quack, and there are plenty out there. I have more
back troubles than you can ever dream of having (sorta?) and chiros
are worth their weight in gold.

Could be tensor fasciitis. It is commonly caused by running on crowned
roads where your feet strike at different levels and your hips roll
unnaturally. Mention it to your physical therapist and he/she can check.

There. Problem solved.

You must have had trouble understanding the thread, and my reasons for
posting to a running newsgroup? Solving the problem to a more
satisfactory degree would be to find a solution enabling me to control
the condition and thereby continue running. Hope that makes a little
more sense for you.

Not sure if you're just trying to annoy me, but in any case your
analogy isn't suitable in my opinion. Any heroin addict who decided to
shoot up would quite likely get into all sort of problems. However, as
mentioned in my post, the condition is dependent on environment (gym or
outdoors), and related to the amount of running I would do in a period
of time. I can indeed go running without problems, but I'd like to do
more without the hip flaring up, hence my query. However, maybe I
didn't make it clear that depending on certain criteria, the hip is OK.

Your logic is like a heroin addict who wants to keep shooting up, but
doesn't want the side effects of heroin addiction.

"Gee, if only I could keep getting high, without the vomiting, the
sweats, and the blowing strangers for pocket change."

Thanks mate! Yeah I clocked it last night after I checked out some of
said troll's other postings. Extremely dumb of me to fall for it! Wow -
imagine being so unhappy and insecure you spend your whole life trying
to offend others on the internet? Could be genuinely loony or depressed
though, plenty of messed up people about.. Anyway, resumed running last
night and all fine - so I'll just keep the distances / regularity down
a little until I get feedback from physio etc. Thanks for the replies.

No problem- good on ya! Keep running and doing what you can. I'm doing the
same with my injuries!

Then you won't be an asshole, you'll be a crippled asshole.
Enjoy!
