Anyone ever heard of the "Barefoot Science Foot Strengthening System"? http://www.barefootscience.com/cdn/index.html Looks and reads interesting, just wondering if it's bunk or not. Thanks, Todd

I've just skimmed the site, and it's not clear what they are selling other than an insert that's somehow different from the traditional inserts they speak against... I believe it's true what they say about the lack of evidence that orthotics and cushioning really accomplish anything, but on the other hand I have not seen any evidence that barefeet are necessarily better. Anecdotal evidence exists for any and all cures. I don't think it's untrue that support from shoes does weaken the foot, but it's not clear how or if that is bad or significant (other than requiring time to transition between shoes of varying support). Of course, if one wishes to strengthen the foot by using "Barefoot Science", I think simply removing ones shoes would be preferable to buying a shoe insert, no? -- Patrick <pat@polycrystal.org >
