Any recommendations for a few loops of 3-13 miles? I'm staying in the ski place and I wan't to lace up from my doorstep. I'm going this friday and I hope to run sat and sun. I did the VT 50 on mtb a while ago, so I know there are lots of great dirt roads. I could find it on my own but I'm looking for someones scenic favorite. I don't mind hills, but gentle rolling stuff is more fun. I remember some steep stuff. Thanks

There are trails that go all the way up from the base, in addtion to the road of course. Since that's the highest point in the area, views are abundant up at the top at least. -Tony

If I remember correctly, at least half of this is dirt roads, and at 5:30am, I expect to see some wildlife: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=372399

Just curious, how did you find this? Two things come to mind: 1) private land / tresspassing, and 2) having to use your GPS to locate every turn, since there are a plethora of trails and roads going all over the place in that area. Since I don't use a GPS (yet) I never really thought of trying mixed courses like that with lots of turns in unfamilar areas. Since I like technical stuff, I normally come with maps in hand to run marked trails in the local state park, or as the locals where a suitable out-and-back on dirt roads is so that I won't get lost. -Tony

Zoom in and you'll see the names of the roads. Slide the ruler on the bottom to see the elevation. You can build a route and save it. If the satellite data is good in your area (it isn't in this area of VT) you can zoom in far enough to see wide trails, especially if they happened to use data from the winter. You can click on the side to get a url for the map, then cut and paste the url into the address bar, then bookmark it for future. If you get a gps it will be even better...see on the left, you can export gps data. looks like I'm going to do about 8.3 miles on sat, 14 miles on sun (twice around the loop part of the map) and maybe 4.6 miles on mon (up to milemarker 6 and back).
