Went to the family dor about my knee and how important it was to
keep training for this race the 21st. He prescriped me prednisone. Is
this dangerous and will it affect your running in a negative way. I
have heard both good and bad about it on the net and wondered if anyone
here was on it for a running injury. I have a 12 days supply start off
with 60mg for 4 days then taper off. A lttle afraid of weight gain as
it is a side effect and my weight is slowly creeping up. I was down to
173 and this morning was 177.

A review of his earlier posts reveals that he is crazy or on something
already.

Nice troll, but for he benefit of others, yes, it is dangerous.

If running this race is more important than your long term health and you
don't mind trashing your knees, then fine, take it. Personally I think
you'd have to be crazy to take powerful steroids to enable you to pursue a
hobby. Indeed, it might literally make you go crazy. Try googling for
"steroid psychosis".

Only for severe cases of poison oak caught from trail running.
Sometimes the knee lymph node swells so much its hard to bend.
The side-effect I dislike is gives a stimulant-like high and
makes it difficult to concentrate on work.
A couple weeks wont be too bad. Some people take it
longer for allergies or transplant anti-rejection and they
can bloat up.

I agree with Rick. I had to take it this summer for the
same sort of thing. My dosage was a bit higher than
what they have you on.

I also noted that (I was on it prior to shoulder surgery) it helped
my shoulder more than the cortisone joint injections.

Like Rick, I had the stimulant high. My running and lifting have
never been better :).

How much were you on? I just split a 10 mg dose in half and took half.
I am dizzy!

I have a co worker who has RA bad and she never was on 60 mg or higher.
It was always lower.

With the rheumatoid and anti-immune diseases prednisone is generally
considered best used for acute situations; people with those diseases
(assuming good medical care) are using other NSAIDs or DMARDs for their
routine medication, and take or are prescribed a jolt of prednisone when
they have a difficult flare. This is a very different protocol from
treating a routine injury.

A slow reduction in dose is very important for these people; maybe less
so for someone on a one or two week plan.

I did prenisone eye drops after I got my Lasik surgery. Does that count?

It probably does; I assume it was short term, intended to reduce
inflammation caused by the procedure, and that it had the intended
effect.

Yeah. I'm just not sure if that was the kind of experience the OP was
asking for. But I did run while "taking" it.

All depends if it would have shown up in tests. Eye drops maybe not.

There have been numerous cases of athletes - included some plain old
amateurs - being banned here (France) because they didn't produce the
required /a priori/ medical certificate covering the detected use of
"illegal" molecules.

Maybe it is to be noted that self-medication with "active" drugs is far
less frequent here (the local UK chemists is a dopers paradise, don't even
get me started on the GMC's :-)

For anyone who thinks they're "clean" check out the international doping
websites. Even those "run of the mill" day-night cold cures contain
illegal molecules and will screw you if you get tested.

No, nobody ever.

I've never needed anti inflammatories.

Between the Jameson's, The Oberon, the weed, the hash (both Afghani &
Dutch!), the acid, mushrooms, opiates, and NyQuil......I've never had
anything get inflamed.
