Today I increased splits 2 and 4 to 3:15 from 3:00. It may not sound like much, but considering that two weeks ago, I couldn't do three 3:00 splits, let alone four, I consider it to be significant. (I increased the walk after the third split to 3:15 also.) Actually, the fourth split today was 3:22 because I had sorta zoned out and lost track of time. I'm not complaining, though. Time: 21:52 Distance: 1.39 miles Pace: 15:40 mi/min Oh, and no GU this time; I didn't even take one with me. Monday, I'll keep all three walks at 3:00, and I'll try to increase splits 2 and 4 to 3:30. This is more than I had originally planned, but the way I'm feeling now, I'm confident that I can do it--and if I can't, it becomes my next intermediate goal.

If you stray from the schedule a bit, don't worry about it. Keep in mind how far you've come already, and know in your hert that you WILL continue to improve. Eric

I'm not worried about straying from the schedule because I've already done that. The training plan for the 4th week calls for splits of 3-5-3-5, with intermediate walks of 1.5-2.5-1.5. I had to greatly modify that in order to work up to it. I have yet meet someone who started the couch to 5K program, and was able to do every step of it as outlined. And yes, I'm fully aware of how far I've come; that's one of the reasons that I keep going.
